Syllables (si - lah - buls)

Its good to understand syllables. Every word is made up of syllables.
Each word has one, two, three or more syllables.
Japanese and English syllables are very different.
Example: orange

Japanese: オレンジ オ1 レ2 ン3 ジ4 = 4 syllables
English: o - range =2 syllables

dog = 1

green = 1

quite = 1

quiet = 2

*table = 2

expensive = 3

interesting = 4

TRY IT!

watermelon = ____

*apple = ____

hamburger = ____

egg = ____

sausage = ____

*Notice that (with a few rare exceptions) every syllable contains at least one vowel (a, e, i, o or u) or vowel sound.
