With Fuel Prices Rising, Bus Ridership Increases
HONOLULU -- With gas prices on Oahu around $4.50 a gallon, the operators of the city's bus system said more people are buying bus passes and taking the bus.The Bus reports a 4-percent increase in bus pass sales compared to a year ago and estimates ridership went up about 3 percent in March.Bus riders have noticed a difference."I know it's crowded. It's a lot of people in here. I know some people cannot afford to buy gas," said Maria Esposa of Kalihi Valley, who waited to catch a bus on King Street Thursday morning.
